After months and months of searching for a warm, safe apartment for me and the cats, I finally found one. No more gross stained carpets that give the cats skin irritations, no more mold explosions downstairs, no more sleeping on the couch when windstorms from the south make the bathroom vent scream all night, no more indoor waterfalls when rain comes from the north, and goodbye freezing cold winter indoors. Also, some of the doors throughout the building have stopped closing all the way (the neighbors have it happening, too), so I believe my current flat might be less safe than I think.

The good news: I found a quiet, dry, safe flat that’s larger and less rent, with new carpet, a heat pump, sealed windows (so I'll have warm cats and a lower heating bill), and a great deal of privacy. It’s super walkable and bike-able, so I can look forward to much less driving. And the cats are extremely welcome; the new property manager already knows Max and Sam by name!

The thing is, our move has to happen fast so I pay as little doubled-up rent as possible (I need to give 4 weeks' notice and the new flat opens up in two weeks). I’ve been saving up, but the cats and I need just a little bit of help to get over the finish line. I don’t need much – for once – and whew, that feels good. My expenses are movers, a new hand drill, and a few moving supplies for the fragile and personal stuff.
