Support our pump track paving project - Gettysburg Rec Park-

Why pave the pump track?

• Maintenance: This is the biggest reason. Most sites where pump tracks are being built are in
open areas, fully exposed to rain and weather. When you build a dirt pump track, it may be
perfect the day you finish building, but every rainstorm is one step closer to returning to flat
ground. The dirt track eventually would become less and less fun to ride. Without a very
committed and knowledgeable crew to keep the track in top form, this is almost inevitable, and
as an all-volunteer operation, we unfortunately do not have those resources.
• Access: These projects are intended to be accessible and attractive to a wide audience, who
may not understand or appreciate the damage that riding a wet trail/track will do it. It really is
not reasonable to think that no one will ride them when they are wet, so paving the track would
make it rideable when wet. This would also be a nice option for riders to have when the rest of
our local trails are too wet to ride. With a paved track, skateboards and scooters can also ride on
them as well.
It takes a great deal of work to bring these facilities to fruition; convincing land managers, public
meetings, raising funds, and finding volunteers. The payoff will be seeing riders young, old,
new, and experienced getting outdoors and building a community together.
