My spouse and I moved to Southern California recently. We were unable to remain in New York due to the climate's harmful effects on my partner's disabilities. We could not go south on the east coast as both of us are nonbinary. California has the protections in place to keep us safe, as well as the climate we need. This winter is the first one that Lore has been able to consistently leave the house in three years.
The good news is that living here has greatly reduced the amount of pain my spouse experiences. The bad news is that after getting out here I was unable to continue working for the same company I was employed at in NY after about a month of remote work.
While we've been job hunting we've burned through our savings and my retirement trying to stay afloat and are now in danger of being put out of our new home. We need some income to cover monthly expenses as we continue to search for jobs in this miserable job market.
