Support our neighbour in surviving losing her housing

I'm a friend of Amanda Lomax and I'm posting this fundraiser to help her get a vehicle which she urgently needs to keep her off the street after she loses her housing this Thursday.
On January 26th, 2025 Amanda world collapsed when her husband, best friend, confidant, love of her life and constant companion died suddenly at 47 years old. They had so many plans for the future and had been working together on so much to improve their lives and it all fell apart that day. Shortly after that to add insult to injury Amanda also lost her vehicle (they had been about to scrap it and purchase something newer but she wasn't able to do that herself.) and then her also her housing and very sense of security.
She has been working very hard to rebuild her life but losing her housing is a significant roadblock she can’t seem to overcome quickly enough. She has the support of an incredible social worker who is going above and beyond to help. But things only happen so quickly.
Also Amanda has limited mobility and uses a walker due to a car accident last year and nearly losing their leg to illness a few years ago. Sometimes walking to get basic needs sometimes pushing her into far overdone and severe pain for days after. The situation has been extremely challenging, especially since the Cowichan Valley is spread out and the buses have been on strike for months. This has made it nearly impossible for them to attend grief support groups, physical therapy, counselling, community events, doctor’s appointments, mobility and exercise classes, buy groceries, meet new people or even spend time with their growing children.
To make matters worse, as of this coming Thursday their time is up where they have been living and they will be unhoused and living on the street with their cat. The timing is extra unfortunate as they have just secured a job and will have an increased income once they can get to and from work, but they desperately need a vehicle to stay off the street for a few more weeks as well as start their new job. This would give them the time they need to work with their social worker to find a solution, and to give them a fighting chance at getting back on their feet and returning to a more stable and independent new life
Amanda is currently in urgent need of financial support to purchase a vehicle—something simple, just a "beater with a heater"—and to cover the initial costs of insurance, taxes and transfer fees. Once the vehicle is secured, they’re confident in their ability to maintain it and handle ongoing expenses, as they’ve always managed to keep a vehicle on the road in the past.
This situation is time-sensitive, and they’re deeply worried about what might happen if they can’t secure transportation soon.
We are trying to raise approximately $2,000, which will go toward:
- Purchasing the vehicle
- Paying for the title transfer and taxes
- Covering the first three months of insurance
Any contribution, no matter the amount, would make a meaningful difference. Thank you so much for your support!
