Support Our Neighbors After House Fire

This afternoon (10/19/2021) around 3:30pm, firefighters were dispatched to Jim Bendekovitz and his family's home at 628 Hill Avenue in Upper Nazareth township for a house fire. The dispatcher reported large flames were visible from the rear of the home and by the second alarm, units responded from Upper Nazareth Fire Department, Bushkill Fire Department, Vigilance Hose Company in Nazareth Borough, Hecktown Fire Company in Lower Nazareth, Plainfield Township Fire Department, Forks Fire Department, and Nancy Run Fire Company.

 

Upper Nazareth's lead officer on the scene estimated approximately 40% of the home was engulfed in fire upon his arrival, with flames and heavy smoke in the rear of the structure. With the concerted efforts of the different fire crews, including the ladder truck from Nazareth Borough and the "snozzle" truck from Lower Nazareth (has a long, extendable arm with a water cannon at the end), fire crews were able to get the blaze under control within 45 minutes of dispatch and fully out within an hour. Most importantly, no residents of the home were injured, nor were any first responders.

Though the front of the home looks intact and in good condition, the rear shows a very different picture and much of the interior is destroyed. The few areas spared from fire were severely damaged by smoke and water.
