Hi! We are Elizabeth Hernandez (Showrunner, Actor, Director) and Jennifer Morgan (Producer, Director) from Avon Park Productions, and we’re so excited to present AVENUE A: a musical comedy series. Avenue A was built by an incredible team of former theater kids, current film nerds, and talented filmmakers, primarily from the BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities. It’s an ambitious passion project, and we have carved out time to create together whilst balancing life and full-time jobs. Any financial support will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time to read about our project!
THE STORY
LOGLINE: After a year abroad, a young college student tries to make the most of her senior year, while navigating her studies, friendships, and her future.
Avenue A is a musical comedy told in 3 episodes. We drop-in to three different points throughout their senior year: the start of school, heading into winter break, and finals week.
Our story centers on six college students, navigating growing up and self-discovery. Daphne an eager fashion designer, Cora a gutsy wild child, Rayleigh the responsible group mom, Liam an aloof film nerd, Sam a supportive smart-ass, and Frankie a fluid fashionista.
Throughout the episodes; Daphne will have to face her fear of career failure in order to keep her friendships. Cora has to navigate a big decision about her future, and Rayleigh must learn when and how to let go in order to move forward.
TONE: Colorful, whimsical, turbulent – an homage to our favorite modern-day movie musicals such as IN THE HEIGHTS, LA LA LAND, MAMMA MIA, and our everyday sitcoms NEW GIRL, FRIENDS, and THE SEX LIVES OF COLLEGE GIRLS amongst many others.
SHOWRUNNER'S STATEMENT
During lockdown in 2020, like many others, the solitude had me reminiscing on old times and living in the nostalgia of my past friendships and relationships.. Being stuck at home brought back memories of college, the new friendships I made back then, and how we’ve grown into adulthood. It reminded me of how special and unique it is to live, work, and socialize in a bubble, and to have your community right outside your bedroom door.
Everything feels heightened in college. Every decision feels like it’s life or death, and the stakes were so high. It’s most people’s first time away from home and their family, and they are trying to make sense of themselves in this new world. Your friends quickly become family, your escape from the realities of growing up, and your voice of reason when you’ve lost your way.
With independence comes a lot of choices: Who will I be? What will I do with my life? What career path should I take? And sometimes we have to forge down the wrong path to find the right one. Sometimes that means changing your major, dropping out of school, going through a romantic breakup or worse–a friendship break up. Having to make those tough decisions is really difficult, but having a good support group makes the outcome a little easier.
Writing Avenue A felt like writing a love letter to the theater kid in all of us. This is for the ones who have persevered through rejection, the ones who might have put their dream on a shelf, and the ones who just wish their life could be a musical sometimes.

WHAT WE NEED
We are relying on a wonderful team of passionate, talented collaborators to help bring this project to life -- many of whom are donating their time. The money we receive from this campaign will go toward food, locations, equipment, recording studio rentals, and the cost of writing and recording the music that accompanies the story.
The good news is we filmed our original song for Episode 1 in April of 2023! This project comes with an incredible cast & crew who already have experience together, on and off screen. The money from this crowdfunding campaign will go toward shooting the rest of our series–including three 30-minute episodes and two more songs that will be filmed over 15 days.
