Greetings to everyone,
It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we share with you the passing of our beloved mother who courageously battled with cancer and died peacefully surrounded by her family in Berkeley, California, on Friday, April 17, 2026.
My mother, maman Lalah Basilidine, was a true light in our lives known for her incredible stories, courage, strength, kindness, generosity, and the love she gave so freely to everyone she encountered. Her presence touched many, and her absence leaves a deep ache in our hearts.
One of her final and most heartfelt wishes was to be brought back to her homeland so that she may rest in peace beside her husband, who passed away forty years ago, and especially to be near our disabled sister whom she embraced with so much love and devotion.
However, transporting a loved one’s remains from America to Madagascar is not easy, and it is indeed a heavy responsibility. That is why we are reaching out to you—friends, relatives, fellow countrymen and women, and all kind-hearted people—to stand with us and help us carry out this sacred and difficult duty.
To make this possible, we have created this fund to help cover the significant costs of repatriating her body. Your generosity will go directly toward transportation and legal arrangements needed to bring her home.
As the saying goes, “No one has everything, but blessed are those who help one another.” We humbly appeal for your support, whatever you may be able to offer. No contribution is too small, and every gift will be deeply appreciated, because “little drops make a mighty flood” and “a shared burden is easier to bear.”
Your contributions will be greatly appreciated but even If you are unable to give, sharing the link to this fundraising effort with your network, relatives, friends and acquaintances would mean so much to us.
As a small tribute, Maman Basilidine was deeply cherished in the community despite having gone through many hardships in her life. She accomplished a great deal and left a lasting, positive mark on her homeland and community through her years of public service in southern Madagascar before retiring. She also showed extraordinary courage by lovingly raising many children on her own, including one with a disability, after her husband passed away forty years ago. She carried that responsibility alone with great sacrifice. During her years in Toliara while she was still working, very few people did not know her. She also cared for many others, including students who needed help and shelter while passing through Toliara; she opened her doors to them with love and supported them with humility and a constant desire to do good.
Thank you very much for your kindness. May God, rich in grace, reward you abundantly for everything you do in helping us fulfill this final sacred duty and honor her wish to return home.

Miarahaba antsika rehetra,
Amin'ny fo mavesatra sy feno alahelo lehibe no ilazanay aminareo rehetra eto ny fahalasanan'ny reny malalanay Lalah Basilidine, izay niady tamin'ny homamiadana ka nodimandry teto Berkeley California ny Zoma 17 Aprily 2026 lasa teo.
Isan'ny hafatra napetrany farany ny mba hampodiana azy any an-tanindrazana mba hahazoany miala sasatra am-piadanana eo anilan’ilay vadiny izay efa nody mandry efapolo taona lasa izay, sy indrindra koa akaikin’ny zandrinay sembana izay tena mamin’ny fony.
Araka ny fomba Malagasy, dia adidy masina ho an’ny taranaka tokoa ny manatontosa izany hafatry ny maty izany. Tsy moramora anefa izany fandefasana ny razana miala avy aty Amerika mankany Madagasikara izany fa adidy mavesatra tokoa. Koa izay indrindra no iantsoanay anareo namana sy tapaka, mpiray tanindrazana, ary ireo malala-tanana rehetra hiombom-po aminay ka hiara hifandrimbona aminay amin'ny fanatontosana izany adidy masina sy mavesatra izany.
Hoy ny fitenenana hoe "Tsy misy manana ny ampy, fa sambatra izay mifanampy", koa miandrandra ny fandraisanao anjara izahay araka izay voatsirambin’ny tananao. Tsy misy hoe bitika fa ankasitrahinay lehibe izay vitanao satria "ny erikerika maha tondra-drano" ary "ny entan-jaraina mora zaka".
Ny fanampianao rehetra azo eto dia hatokana manontolo hiatrehana ny saram-pandefasana ny reninay hody any antanindrazany any Madagasikara.
Ankasitrahana koa ny mba hanaparitahanao ny rohy amin’izao fiaraha-mientana izao amin'izay olom-pantatrao rehetra.
Mba ho fahatsiarovana kely, i Maman Basilidine dia mamy hoditra teo amin’ny fiaraha monina na dia nandalo ady sarotra maro aza teo amin’ny fiainany. Nahavita be tokoa ary namela mamy teo amin'ny tanindrazana sy ny fiarahamonina izy tamin’ny asam-panjakana nataony tany amin’ny faritra atsimon’i Madagasikara nandritra ny androm-piainany manontolo alohan’ny naha mpisotro ronono azy. Naneho herim-po tsy nisy toa azy ihany koa izy satria nitaiza irery tamim-pitiavana zaza efabavy izay misy sembana iray na dia maty aza ny vadiny efapolo taona lasa izay. Nataony irery tao anatin'ny fahafoizan-tena izany ary raha mbola olona tao Toliara tamin’ny androny mbola niasa tao dia vitsy no tsy mahalala azy. Maro ihany koa noho izany ireo taizany toy ireo mpianatra mila fanampiana sy trano raha nandalo tao Toliara ka novohainy varavarana am-pitiavana sy nampiany am-panetren-tena sy finiavana hanasoa hatrany.
Mankasitraka indrindra tompoko ary Andriamanitra manan-karem-pahasoavana anie hamaly ny vitanareo rehetra amin’izao adidy masina farany hanatontosana ny fangatahany hody izao.
