The Greek Orthodox Monastery of the Virgin Mary of Consolation was founded 23 years ago and today, we are home to 23 sisters. Our growing community sits North-West of Montreal, Quebec – between Ottawa and Montreal – in a small town where our sisters have the opportunity to live a simple, fulfilling life. Let’s not confuse simple with easy. Our monastics work diligently to maintain the grounds; produce items like cheese, soaps and icons that we sell; pray for our fellow Orthodox Christians and for everyone in the world and host more than 40,000 visitors at the monastery every year.
We have, for some time, known that the structural facilities on our grounds were inadequate and we have run out of space to even maintain the community of sisters who already live, work and pray with us.
In 2005, we began the long and difficult process of raising funds to build space that could be used to house monastics, workspace areas and rooms dedicated for the needs of our visitors. In 2009, the first phase of construction was completed and the expected completion date of the entire project was set for 2012. In 2012, the general contractor abandoned the project and we were left with construction plans and an unusable space that has remained unfinished and unused since then.
We need your help – we need your help because this place belongs to us all. We need your help because our Lord and Savior will answer our prayers through you.
Please consider making a donation to our building fund – and help us complete this most worthy project.
In the memo please include your prayer requests.
