Hello as most of you may know our momma has been very sick. She has had a rough 7 weeks. She had a stroke early March and then recently developed a diverticula abscess (the size of a fist) and a gi bleed. She was in the ICU most of last week with a drainage tube to evacuate the infection as she had became septic. While she was in ICU the team of doctors evaluated her mechanical heart valve. They had concerns and suspected a problem… they found that her mechanical valve is not opening and closing to its full potential.
(Which will require a new valve to be placed very soon)
After a week of multiple strong IV antibiotics the infectious disease doctors felt that her abscess was nearly resolved and removed the drain. After 11 days in the hospital they felt like she was okay to go home with my sister and I keeping a close eye on her. The plan was to be on a months worth of two very potent oral antibiotics and lab work EVERYDAY. (Our opinion she should not have returned home for a while longer).
Nevertheless she was d/c home Wednesday 4/24. Labs were done the following morning on 4/25. She was complaining of a lot of right leg and back pain. By 3pm she was in so much pain she couldn’t stand it. She was carried down her apartment’s stairs and put into my car where I drove her back to Cabell as quickly as I could. Upon arrival to the ER she was having syncopal episodes over and over. (She has a known AAA which they were concerned was dissecting). The CT scan did not show a dissection thank God! BUT it did show a 6cm X 18cm compartment full of blood with active bleeding (Probable cause was anticoagulation therapy and instrumental trauma from the drain). She is unable to have surgery due to her blood thinners… can’t stop blood thinners due to heart valve and stroke risks. She has received blood products but still continues to internally bleed. Her WBC are over 37000 now and blood counts remain low, as we wait…. We are at a loss. Hands are tied and all they can do is continue what they are doing… wait and see
Rachel, myself, and Aunt and Uncle have been commuting back and forth everyday.
We ask for your prayers most of all. She has overcome some much and still she fights.
Funds will be used to help us help our mother with healthcare expenses.
