Support Our Mom's Fight Against Lupus

She has always been the heart of our family—the kind of mom who quietly gives everything for her children and loves unconditionally, not just as a mother, but also as a grandmother to three beautiful grandchildren. One of those grandkids she hasn’t even met in person yet, a moment she continues to hold onto hope for. Her greatest joy has always been taking care of others, offering comfort, strength, and kindness even when she had little left to give.

Our mom, Maria Teresa Calma, only 55, despite remaining healthy in her prime years, was still diagnosed in December of 2022 with lupus—a chronic autoimmune disease that attacks healthy tissues and organs. Since then, she’s been in and out of the hospital more times than we can count, bravely enduring complications affecting her joints, skin, kidneys, lungs, and heart. Her journey has involved multiple surgeries, constant hospitalizations, and a lifetime of medications.

Two years ago, another challenge arose—she was diagnosed with a spinal disc defect. The long-term use of steroids to manage her lupus has severely weakened her bones and joints, and she is now fully bedridden. Despite everything, she has never lost her will to fight or her hope to recover. But today, she needs help more than ever.

Our mom urgently needs total hip replacement surgery to relieve her from constant pain and immobility. Alongside this, she also requires debridement and skin grafting procedures to treat a recurring infection caused by prolonged bedrest. These are not minor operations—they come with significant hospital stays, costly medications, and intensive post-surgery care.
