Help Our Mom Fight Rare and Aggressive Leiomyosarcoma (LMS)

Our Mom’s Story

In September 2023, our mom went to the ER thinking she had the flu. But after a series of scans and tests, doctors discovered something no one expected — a massive tumor.

Within just a few days, she was meeting with oncologists and surgeons. A few weeks later, she underwent major surgery to remove a tumor that weighed 9 pounds — about the size of a medium watermelon.

She was diagnosed with Leiomyosarcoma (LMS), a very rare and aggressive form of cancer that develops in smooth muscle tissue. Fewer than 1 in 1 million people in the U.S. are diagnosed with LMS each year.

Immediately after surgery, she began an intense chemotherapy regimen — three weeks on, one week off. It was incredibly hard on her body. Over the next three months, she was hospitalized repeatedly and even suffered a stroke due to the aggressive treatments. By God’s mercy, she came through it with only minor lasting effects.

In March 2024, doctors told us that there was nothing more they could do. Our mom was sent home on hospice care. It was devastating.

But then, something incredible happened.

By June 2024, she began to regain strength. Her oncologist agreed to run a PET scan, and the results stunned everyone: no signs of cancer. Our mom was completely cancer-free. We had witnessed a miracle. For nine beautiful months, she was off treatment and full of hope.

Then, in February 2025, the cancer came back. This time, it's more aggressive and has spread to her colon and bladder.

Doctors ran more tests and discovered two important things:

1. The cancer is being fueled by excess estrogen.

2. It is linked to a rare genetic mutation, something seen in only 5% of LMS cases.

She is currently on hormone blockers and targeted chemotherapy. The next phase is even more serious.

In July and August, she will undergo multiple tests, another surgical consultation, and then major surgery to remove as much of the cancer as possible — including the bladder and colon. This will require her to live with both bladder and colon bags. Recovery will take between 3 to 6 months, with continued treatment afterward.

 

Why We’re Asking for Help

This journey has placed a heavy emotional and financial burden on our family. Our mom is a fighter, and we’re standing with her — but we can’t do this alone.

We’re raising funds to help with:

• Life-saving medical treatments

• Surgery and post-operative care

• Travel and lodging for hospital visits

• Medications, supplies, and in-home support

• Living expenses during her recovery

• And, if the time comes, funeral and end-of-life expenses.
