Support Our Mom, Veronica, in Her Battle with Breast Cancer

Hi, I am starting this GoFundMe for my mom, Veronica.

For those who know my mom know she is one of the most loving, giving, and caring people out there.

My sister and I could not be more thankful for how blessed we are to have her as a mother. She has loved us as long as we have lived, and we have loved her our whole life. She has taken care of each of us; my dad during his kidney dialysis and transplant journey; me during my c-section, postpartum, and cancer journey; and my sister through her delivery and postpartum journeys. And of course every day in the way moms do. We cannot imagine a world without her.

At the end of last year, she began having pain in her right breast. After her annual mammogram, her doctor found something suspicious. A repeat scan was done and unfortunately, it showed the same concern.

An ultrasound was ordered. The ultrasound confirmed the concern the doctor had. After the ultrasound, a biopsy was ordered. The biopsy confirmed the concerns my mom and her doctor had...it was cancer.

We were shocked that my mom, the warrior, the strong one, the one who always shows up for someone, had breast cancer.

She then had to find an oncologist. Her oncologist ordered a PET scan. Luckily, the PET scan showed that the cancer had not spread past the right breast.

Her surgeon also had concerns for her left breast lymph nodes and ordered another biopsy of the right breast and the left breast lymph nodes. There were good and bad news. Good news, left breast lymph nodes were negative. Bad news, the right breast had grown more tumors. She needed surgery as soon as possible.

On Jan 20, my mom had a mastectomy and is currently in recovery.

What happens next is up in the air. It all depends on the pathology report. The pathology report will determine type of treatment and when/if reconstruction is an option.

All these surgeries and procedures will have my mom out of work for some time. The amount of time is unknown.

We know God has everything under control, and He has the final say.
