Hey everyone,
Luke Edgar Hoge is a medical ICU nurse at St. Joseph hospital on nights. He works as a staffing nurse and charge nurse for the unit and now as an additional charge nurse and staff nurse for our COVID ICU. He just worked 11 nights in a row 12 hrs each time due to our short staffing. Things he has noticed that nurses need help with are things that we can do as a community if you are interested.
"The nurses are working over their usual capacity in regards to nurse to patient ratio. Multiple nurses are not be able to eat during their shift due to not having food available or the time to eat. People have been donating food for them to eat in passing and that seems to really help. Right now, we'd like to coordinate efforts so that we can provide freezer-ready meals or other essentials that could aid the staff with their care of COVID-19 patients. "
It also helps with the morale, which is severely low during this time. Let's show that we support those who are actively working to keep our community safe.
Please consider donating to provide for those actively working to keep our community safe. We will then use this amount to support our Medical/Critical Care workers at St. Joseph and UM Hospital. Note, we understand that there are some individuals struggling financially because of losing their job. Please only donate if you have the financial ability to donate. It is equally important to take care of your family and yourself and stay healthy.
We are coordinating the distribution as it is important to limit the number of people trying to bring items to the hospital and limit the possible spread.
