On Monday, August 25, 2025, Five year old Macie Zoubek (daughter of Matt and Marissa Zoubek of Powers, Or) suffered a near fatal drowning accident on the South Fork of the Coquille river. While swimming and playing, the child inadvertently became pinned under a floating dock with her lifejacket keeping her body held under the water. Macie was rescued, resuscitated, and life flighted to Riverbend where she was transferred to the pediatric ICU unit at OHSU/Doernbechers hospital in Portland, Or. where her parents and a chaplain awaited her arrival. After spending several days healing and recovering in a drug induced coma, Macie was removed from anesthesia and pain medications and is making great strides in her recovery and rehabilitation. The doctors and paramedics are calling her a miracle! Macie girl is a fighter, and her strong, spunky little attitude was prevalent throughout the entire duration of her trauma and is keeping her spirits high during the healing process. By the grace of God, Macie was rescued and saved by her caregiver, friends, family, first responders, paramedics, doctors, and nurses who worked tirelessly to keep her alive. No amount of thanks would ever be sufficient. It truly is a miracle.

Unfortunately for the family, their insurance policies do not cover the type of emergency transportation that was provided, and as both working parents are by their daughters side, medical bills and other expenses are piling up quickly.
