Empowerment Program

Hi everyone! My name is ELISSA BALL, and I’m raising money for a cause that means a lot to me.

The Creative Consortium of Pueblo with Friendly Harbor as fiscal agent has begun a free, one-year long, art-based identity, empowerment and skill-building after-school mentoring program designed for 100 at-risk kids 9-15 years old. It is called MY NAME IS-an Arts-based Youth Documentary Program. Kids meet 2 hours/week with an artist, group assistant and up to 9 other kids, learning artistic, creative, and filming skills. Outside experts will join to teach and discuss a wide-range of life skills and topics. Together, they will create a documentary showcasing the process and their experiences. This documentary will be shown in the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center Theater.

We have 30 kids registered, and will keep it at 30 until funding supports an increase. Each child attends either a Visual Arts, Music and Storytelling, Welding, or Creative Writing and Filmmaking Group.

We are having a fundraiser event on September 19th from 2-4 pm in the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center Theater. A fabulous filmmaker and youth advocate, Tom Sheperd will tantalize and inspire us with 4 short documentaries created at the Youth Documentary Academy in Colorado Springs.
