The Back Story
Music has been an integral of my life forever. Without it I am sure I would be lost. There is always a memory behind every song that I love. Whether it be a reflection of where I was and what I was doing when that song first came out, to it evoking memories of both sad and happy times. Music and my favorite tracks are my life’s diary. In 1971 I got my first DJ gig at Radio 5RM in Berri in South Australia. The next 14 years were spent as a jock and program director at various stations in Australia and New Zealand. The following 3 decades were spent in the movie distribution sector including a 10-year stint as CEO of Village Roadshow Entertainment. Of course, I guess it was only natural that at Village I started a record company – Roadshow Music. We incubated a host of young and established artists and I was honored to be able to tell the legendary John Woodruff that he had a home at Roadshow Music with a new band from Brisbane called ‘Savage Garden’.The rest of course was history with that one !
Over the years I have loved compiling playlists from i-tunes and others of my favorite tracks. At the end of the day I had to compile MY lists because having tried all the music streaming platforms I just got tired of pushing the ‘next’ button’ My taste is and always has been cruisy mellow tracks with a mixture of classics and new discoveries. My friends and family always seemed to enjoy my playlists and my old ‘radio programming’ love seemed to have assisted!
And so the year that no one will forget – 2020. Like a lot of us I had a lot more time on my hands and threw myself into my music lists until one day I thought – ‘let’s build a an internet radio station out of this’. And so, The Wave Australia was born.
The Wave Australia
For the last few months we have been in ‘beta’. Testing, fine tuning , finding new gems and adding old favorites. We have quietly passed The Wave Australia out to friends who I am delighted to say, keep on coming up with new tracks that are just terrific and fit our mellow/chill format. It’s a fine tuning and adding tracks role that we don’t’ think will ever stop. And that goes to the heart of The Wave Australia. We are not about algorithms and computer-generated playlists. We are about listening intently to every track and how it will fit against the track before it and the track after it. Our mantra is to present a playlist that is ALWAYS hand crafted – with love. We are determined that The Wave Australia will ALWAYS be about the music. That’s why you wont find any talk or any ads on The Wave Australia. Just music we hope you can leave on for hours and never tire of.
How You Can Help.
We are looking to raise initially $30,000 to keep The Wave Australia advertising free and to use those funds to further increase our reach into ‘Regional Waves’. These will be a set of small community 'waves' highly focused on the local communities whether it be Lennox Head , Port Lincoln ,Wonthaggi or Broome! Funds raised will also be used to help us market and cover overheads and licenses for 'The Wave Australia' and its 'micro sites' , and to assist us to reach out to incubate new Australian artists that can have a ‘voice’ on The Wave Australia along with other initiatives .
