A Dapple a Day Equine Center is a therapeutic riding center based out of Queensbury NY. We’re home to a herd of therapy horses from all walks of life, one of which was a sweet mare named Perla. As a retired racehorse and retired polo horse, Perla came to a dapple a day with an extensive resume, in which she added “therapist” for children and adults to her list. She worked with participants in our PATH to Recovery substance abuse recovery program, worked with riders with and without special needs to take them from lead line lessons through riding independently at the walk and trot, and taught in our adult programs for those getting back into riding after years away from the saddle.

Sadly, Perla colicked the night of May 10th. Our vet kept her as comfortable as we could while we waited for the medicine to kick in and watched for her colic to resolve. By morning the colic had worsened, and she passed away the morning of May 11th.

Perla’s sudden death was tough on students, and her fellow herd members are stepping in to those lessons to fill the void that her passing has left. She left big shoes to fill! This means the barn is searching for a new horse to welcome in and spoil with love.

This gofundme is to help the farm in 2 ways from the wake that Perla’s passing left. We have outstanding vet bills to take care of, and are also looking for a new therapy horse to fill what was Perla’s role at the farm. Perla was a very a gentle and patient mount for new riders, but could also kick things up a notch for more advanced riders. We hope to find a new horse with those same qualities that have allowed so many to get comfortable working with horses from the ground and advance their skills through riding.
