SUPPORT OUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY IN CANOAS, RIO GRANDE DO SUL
Donation protected
If you haven’t heard about it already, our home state in the south of Brazil, Rio Grande Do Sul, has been devastated by floods.
This is the worst natural disaster in the history of the state and our family and friends along with over one million others have been impacted.
This event has hit extremely close to home. Our loved ones have had to be rescued from their homes and have since lost everything. We have started this gofundme to help in any way we can while we watch Brazil struggle with the long lasting problems caused by these catastrophic floods.
All the money donated will go to Sheila Buse Hasse (my mum) who is volunteering to help the community by providing food, water, medical supplies, nappies, pet food and blankets to those who have nothing left.
For more information about the floods read on:
Our state in Brazil has been devastated by floods, impacting nearly 400 cities and more than one million people. It's the worst natural disaster in the history of the state. In our hometown Canoas, over 2/3 of the city is underwater, about 80,000 people have lost everything and hundreds are unaccounted for. The vast majority of the rescues were done by civilians, with very little resources or help from the authorities.
At this stage, all these people are staying in temporary shelters such as gymnasiums, churches and schools which are being looked after by volunteers. They are in need of basic supplies such as food and water as well as medical supplies. There are not enough doctors and nurses to look after everyone. There are also hundreds of dogs and cats staying in temporary shelters. The water is slowly going down but they expect it may take over 40 days for the water levels to go back to 'normal'. The local community will need EVERY little bit of financial help in order to get back on their feet.
