Support Our Friend with MND Mobility & Adaptation Challenges

Amy, Beth, Steph and Emily are raising funds to help their childhood friend, the lovely Sally Scales, and to support her following her life-changing Motor Neurone Disease (MND) diagnosis.

Sally's devastating diagnosis came just last year, in 2024. For those who don't know, MND is a terminal disease with no chance of recovery. Due to the aggressive complexity of this condition, Sally will never run along the beach again, watch the sun set from the peak of a mountain or swim in the ocean - all things that were core to her enjoyment of life.

She will become fully wheelchair dependant, and it is highly likely she will lose her ability to speak, to write or operate a computer. Her breathing and swallowing will be affected, and she will need 24 hour full time care.

As MND takes away most of her life enjoyments, Sally is desperate to remain in her own home for as long as possible, which means that she needs to make extensive alternations - widening doorways for wheelchair access, creating disabled facilities and repurposing space to adapt to her new needs. She also has future care costs to consider, which will be substantial to allow her to continue to enjoy any quality of life.

Adaptations alone come at a cost in excess of £50,000, which is out of the realms of her - or indeed most people's affordability. Staying in her own home is a small thing for Sally to ask, but government and charity financial support is minimal, and raising the funds to make this possible is her only hope.

Sally is one of a kind - good-hearted, caring and loyal - and she is the last person who deserves this dreadful fate.

To raise funds, Amy, Beth, Steph and Emily will run a mile every single day throughout February 2025, to show their support for Sally and to put action behind their fundraising efforts.
