Help Support Helena

We’re raising funds for our dear friend and Bloomingdale community member, Helena, who has been facing an incredibly difficult financial season.

As an only child with no other family, Helena has devoted herself to caring for her mom Sharon, who raised Helena as a single parent and now has Lewy body dementia. Her mom’s health has steadily worsened over the past decade, and Helena has done her best to find housing and affordable medical treatment for her mom while keeping up with her own expenses.

Recently, Helena lost her job, and her car was totaled, which makes it difficult to get to the several odd jobs she is now working to make ends meet. Then devastatingly, her mom was targeted by a scammer and lost $15,000—money their family could not afford to lose.

Throughout all this, Helena has given so much of herself to her community. She’s organized the Crispus Attucks Park Day fundraiser for years and overseen the movie nights in the park as the board’s president. She is also very involved in her yoga community at Yoga District.

After years of caregiving, community building, and working multiple jobs to support herself and her mom, Helena could really use some support herself. Donations will help with transportation, caregiving, household expenses, and the financial strain this unexpected loss has created.
