On behalf of Daniele, I'm asking you to give what you can to alleviate the financial burden of the pain and trauma caused by Daniele's accident and subsequent amputation.
A note from Daniele:
"After having told my mother the news of my accident, I feel confident telling the rest of the world the reason I've been silent for over a year.
In August of 2018, I fell while walking my dog, Prada. I fractured my ankle and tibia in my right leg.
After two months in the hospital and a few days before being released, the doctor made a final assessment and discovered that 90% of the fractured bones were infected with MRSA. MRSA is an antibiotic-resistant infection.
The only solution for saving me was an amputation of my right leg.
I am in good health now and in a better emotional and psychological place. I want to thank, from the bottom of my heart, all of those who have been by my side, day and night in the hospital and during my rehabilitation. Without their help and support, I don't if I could ever face and overcome the pain and trauma I experienced during that time.
It was incredible to see how my friends, people who didn't know each other, from different stages of my life and from different places in the world could come together and form such a strong emotional and practical support group.
I realized how lucky I am.
For anyone who is going through a similar experience, I would just like to tell them to never forget to focus on what we have and not on what we have lost.
And really what we have is who we are.
It's not easy but it's a process...like everything in life.
I started to walk step after step... learning again like a child, but with the conscience of an adult with the full appreciation of the meaning of each step.
In the beginning, when I looked at myself in the mirror what I saw was only a body without a leg... I used to see what what not there.
Today, I feel like myself again, someone strong. I don't feel like I lost something but instead I gained something.
This summer, I embarked on my first long plane trip back to Italy with this new physical condition. A journey to test my new limits, a journey to be with my loved ones, but above all, a journey to tell my mom what happened and give her a chance to see with her own eyes, that I am really well and in good health.
Now the time has come to tell all the people, that in one way or another I have crossed paths with in my life.
Now it's time to start a new chapter in my life!
