Help our flood hit River Shack

UPDATE 05/11/23

What an incredible response - thank you doesn't feel big enough for the gratitude I feel to live in such a generous and caring community. The River Shack team and I are completely taken aback by the support shown and the speed with which you helped us to raise over £6,500 - smashing the target set in less than a week. This will help the team manage the costs of the clear up that little bit easier. We have taken the decision to close this fundraiser now. From the soft opening last night to being back (with reduced menu) today, the team at the River Shack are getting back to normal service. See you at the Shack soon.

Last weekend the River Shack flooded at the height of their first Halloween party. So much love had gone into this - themed food and drink, party games and entertainment as well the owners in full fancy dress. This was Will and Faye all over. And it was a smashing party until the river invited itself in.

What followed has been painful to watch for the whole community. Appeals for people to bail out not just once, but twice. Pictures of floorboards lifted by the floods. Stock dispersed across village fridges when the Shack’s cold storage was lost. The news that insurance won’t cover them.

While the floodwaters have gone for now the hard work to get the Shack back is only just beginning. Cleaning, repairing, replacing, restocking and then building back to better protect from the next floods - this is a lot for our friends to shoulder alone. The stress on Will and Faye, their young family, and the whole team at the Shack must be huge. So let’s do something about it.

To the River Shack team: You are an irreplaceable part of our community and we care. Bucket loads in fact. We all have our own memories that you and your dream have helped to make. Thank you.

I know times aren’t easy but if you have a little spare and like me, you want to help our favourite shack bounce back all the brighter then perhaps you can share some love with the team - so we can all get back to amazing food, warm drinks and welcomes, cold ice cream and good time vibes.
