WHAT ARE WE TRYING TO DO HERE?
So glad you found us! We are THE FREE COMPANY, a new theater company committed to the nonconformist, the weird, the absurd, the outlandish, and the revolutionary. This summer, we are thrilled to be producing our very first show, Five Step Skincare Routine by Sydney Duncan, at The Tank! In order to make this happen, we are asking for your help. Your contribution will go directly toward compensating the talented individuals who make this work possible.
Pietro happens to be a clown, and also happens to be avoiding something from her past, in an attempt to move forward and be a beautiful normal girl who does what she's supposed to. But she can't seem to forget the thing from before, especially after the sudden appearance and disappearance of an old friend, which sends her spiraling into the absurd world around her, full of distorted faces who all seem to want something that she is unable to give.
Five Step Skincare Routine is a story about the holes people leave in our lives, and how our choices are informed by that absence. It's about the stories we make up in order to make sense of the world around us, while coping with a reality that completely defies sense to begin with. It's about the lengths we go to bury our discomfort, especially at others' expense. It's about easy lies and hard truths and the seductive pull of searching for something that will make us whole while avoiding the very thing that makes us empty. And yet, it's hilarious!
In today's world, we are ridden with mantras of self-motivation and individualization while being stripped of what makes us actually human. As Pietro weaves through a cosmos of characters that shine a magnifying glass on this truth, 5SSR becomes a mirror of the world as we know it.
FUNDING
As excited as we are about bringing this play to life, we cannot do it on our own! While we've been given a limited amount of free rehearsal hours by The Tank, we will need funds to pay for rehearsal space in July. More importantly, we want to make sure all of the artists -- actors, designers, and production team -- are compensated for their hard work. At a time where it's increasingly hard to get funding because of federal cuts to the arts, your support would be pivotal in helping us bring this show to life!
