From Lynette: Please Help Keep Our Family Together

Hi, my name is Lynette, and I’m writing this with a heavy heart. My husband and I met after high school and have been together for 10 years — married for 8. We’ve built a quiet, peaceful life here in Hawaii. We go to church, we take care of each other, and we foster elderly and sick rescue dogs patches, Nani and Cricket who is 15 years old!

We’ve always tried to face life’s challenges on our own. But this time, we need help.

My husband came to the U.S. as a child and later applied for DACA. Like many others, we believed that marrying a U.S. citizen meant he was safe. He let his status lapse, thinking we were covered. We’ve been trying for years to save up for an immigration attorney to fix it — but something always sets us back.

One of the biggest was a terrible car accident I was in. I was hit by someone fleeing the police, ended up hospitalized, my car was totaled, and I lost my job. Now, things have gotten even scarier. ICE recently detained my husbands father — while walking his dog. We’re terrified that my husband could be next. He has no criminal history. We’re quiet people who work hard, care for our animals, and stay involved in our community and church. But suddenly, the life we’ve built is hanging by a thread.

We’re trying to raise $20,000 not only to pay for a trusted immigration attorney and finally fix his 

legal status — but also to help cover the costs of keeping our home, caring for our rescue dogs, and holding our little family together while we go through this process.

We didn’t want to ask for help. But now we have no choice. We just want to stay together — to keep our family, our home, and our peace intact.
