Our Journey Through Unimaginable Challenges
We are reaching out to friends, family, and compassionate supporters to help us navigate an incredibly challenging journey. The past year has brought a series of life-changing events to our family, and we need your support now more than ever.
Facing MCAS: A Life-Altering Diagnosis
2025 was an extremely hard year for our family. In April, I was hospitalized for eight days after experiencing an anaphylactic event and was diagnosed with MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome). This condition has dramatically changed my life. From April to August, we worked closely with an immunologist in an effort to stabilize my MCAS symptoms. My daily life has become extremely limited—I am restricted in where I can go, must take multiple medications daily, and can only eat from a list of thirteen safe foods. I am highly reactive to shampoos, soaps, perfumes, laundry detergents, chemicals, often reacting to products others use, even the neighbors doing laundry with scented products can cause anaphylaxis.
Anaphylactic reactions can be triggered anytime by foods, scents, soaps, chemicals, perfumes, and even temperature changes. I always keep at least four epi-pens and related medications within arm's reach, and I carry emergency instructions for 911 wherever I go. We incurred huge medical expenses during this time which exhausted any savings that we had.
Another Battle: Breast Cancer Diagnosis
To add to our burden, I was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2025 . Over the next 2 months surgeons coordinated with my immunologist to figure out how to safely do surgery to remove the cancer with my MCAS. In October 2025, I underwent a double mastectomy. Due to serious complications following surgery, I developed full thickness necrosis on both sides of my chest. I go to wound care at the hospital once a week and I spend an hour every day at home on wound care working to heal the open holes in my chest. I have required critical treatments, ongoing medical care, and my MCAS symptoms have intensified significantly requiring around the clock medications to keep it under control. During a 24 hour period I take multiple medications at 14 different times day and night. The financial burden resulting from these circumstances has become overwhelming and far beyond our current resources. Unfortunately our health insurance plan is a high deductible plan which means 100% of the costs will be our responsibility starting January 1, 2026 until $4000 deductible is met and then we share the costs until the $10,000 out of pocket is met. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference for our family.
Your Support Matters
Funds contributed will be applied directly to hospital bills, wound care appointments, medications, physical, occupational, and lymphedema therapy, and essential medical follow-up appointments. Your support is crucial in enabling access to necessary medical care during this challenging period. We appreciate your consideration in donating or sharing this campaign.
Thank you for standing with us.
