A female-led, student short film focusing on a young novelist who gets the opportunity of a lifetime, but is held back by not getting the love and support from one person she wants it from the most.

Director’s Statement:

Hello! My name is Calysa Ajele, and I am the writer and director of the women-led, student short film, Things Left Unsaid. The story of Things Left Unsaid originally came to me in a dream. One thing I’ve always believed about dreams is that they are the windows to truths our subconscious mind is aware of, but our conscious minds choose to ignore. This story examines exactly that.

Noah, our lead, has difficulty being fully honest with herself about what she needs. When she begins to unravel the truth behind her relationship, instead of taking necessary action, Noah spends her time ruminating over what could have been. Things Left Unsaid is an amalgamation of the neglected truths, misunderstood emotions, and waterfalls of what-ifs that we can never seem to escape.

With this story, I wanted to reflect on the little things the way our lead, Noah, does. I wanted to question my own thinking and understand my own emotions and behaviors as I experience them naturally. Furthermore, I want everyone to find a piece of themself within this story. We have all chosen, at one point or another, to keep something to ourselves instead of speaking it out loud. Things Left Unsaid explores the consequences of that decision and will hopefully resonate with all who have experienced such.
