Help Our Family Recover & Rebuild after Hurricane Helene
Donation protected
As many of you may know, Hurricane Helene has completely devastated my city. We live in Crystal River Florida. Flood Zone A to be exact.
My family and I have been displaced due to our home being flooded. We got over 2 ft of water into our home. We have completely lost all of our furniture, appliances, and belongings. Our car was also severely damaged in the storm, if not totaled. I have already been denied by my car insurance because I did not have comprehensive coverage, so they will not be fixing my car. I just got my denial letter from FEMA because they said that I am covered through my homeowners and flood insurance. I was denied for help with shelter cost I was denied for help with moving expenses I was denied for help with loss of personal property. And I just got told by my flood insurance and home insurance that I have what is called LPI insurance, which means it's been placed by the lenders.
And even though we paid over $4,000 a year for these policies, they only cover damage done to the outside of the dwelling. We will not receive any help or any type of coverage for the damage on the inside of the home.
We have water damage all up the drywall, water damage all on the wooden floors, water damage on baseboards, doors, and cabinets.
What ever money is raised will towards rebuilding my home , fixing my car, and getting us somewhere safe to stay. We also have a 5,000 dollar deductable to be paid on our hazard policy so we can fix the damage to the roof. Our five teenagers are currently scattered among friends and family. They are scared and we all just want to be together.
We already got a little bit of help with someone coming in and helping us rip out the flood-damaged carpets that were turning black with mold. We are completely gutting this house to try to save it with no funds to do so.
I've also can provide proof and photos of my denial letter from FEMA and my denial letter from my insurance company.
I really don't know where to go from here; all I know is that we need help.
We are desperately trying to raise money to help with repairs to our home as well as money to replace appliances. Not to mention, we're going to need a place to stay while our home is being fixed.
If you could find it in your heart to make a donation, any little bit helps. We are also willing to take donated furniture or appliances. Thank you so much for all of your time, and I sure hope that this community can pull together and build back better than ever.
Your support will help us with:
- Emergency housing essentials
- Replacing dry walls, insulation, trim, cabinetry, and flooring
- Replacing essential belongings lost in the flood
-Purchasing items to limit mold growth
-Purchasing storage for saved items to preserve them
- Basic living expenses during this difficult transition
Any help, no matter how small, will mean the world to us. Thank you for standing by us in this incredibly trying time. We are deeply grateful for your kindness and generosity.
With gratitude,
