Help my family get healthier by getting our house healthier and helping pay for my research hospital trips.
Our house is making us sick. Literally, physically sick. Our daughter came home from college for winter break and immediately developed a cough that hasn't gone away, and I fear she is developing at least one of the chronic illnesses I have. The state of our house is contributing to my own bedbound misery. And my husband, Lynx, who used to be able to keep up with housework, developed atrial fibrillation (afib) as a form of Long COVID, robbing him of the ability to do the needful things. For years now.
Years ago, I'd bartered services with a local cleaning service. I wish that could have gone on forever. But our house is a disaster that has steadily gotten worse for the last six years since the pandemic started.
It's too embarrassing to share photos of the whole house, but I cartoonified one photo of our bedroom that I took from my place in bed to give you the general shape of things.
We technically have the money to pay for the deep cleaning we need, but that money is coming out of my disability backpay that I need to pay for the out-of-pocket costs to go see the autonomic specialist at the NYU Langone Dysautonomia Clinic in New York City, which involves $400 in train fare for my husband and me each trip as well as $900/hour for office visits. The autonomic specialist can only do so much for me if the house I'm living in is actively making me sicker.
I was absolutely shocked at the price that was quoted to me to get our house in order, but we have to do it. We can't live like this anymore. Our sick house needs remediation. Please help us.
