Support Our Family in Making Our Home Accessible

In March of 2022, my dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer that had also metastasized in his brain. Within that year he underwent two brain surgeries and has been receiving chemo and immunotherapy treatments for around 2-3 years. Since his diagnosis, he has been on short-term and now long-term disability leave from his job. Now, my mom works tirelessly as not only a caretaker but still as a mother of 2 and in her position at work. She also had to face being diagnosed with breast cancer last fall, but has since recovered. Due to multiple reasons from my dad’s condition, he needs a cane and sometimes a wheelchair to move around. Our house is very inaccessible to him, which makes it hard for him to spend time with us around the house and limits his autonomy. My mom has made the decision to add accessible features to our house, like a stairlift, but these features are unfortunately very expensive. So, not only is my mom helping myself and my brother get through college, she’s also spending lots of money on making my house a better place for my dad to live. She has made endless sacrifices for my family since my dad was diagnosed, and I would really love to be able to give back to her for everything she’s done for me my entire life. I love my parents so much, they are 2 of my most favorite people, and my mom is one of my best friends. If you can, please help us in making my house a better place for my dad to live. It would mean the world to me.
