My name is Jordan, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my family of five—soon to be six, with our fourth daughter on the way—and our beloved pets. We were forced to evacuate our home in Spokane due to the Old Trails Fire, which has devastated our entire neighborhood, parks, church, and everything familiar to us. We had to leave with only what we could fit in the car, driving hours away with our family, four cats and two dogs. The fires are still raging with little containment, and conditions set to worsen over the next few days, we have no way of knowing if our house will survive. We’ve been told it was saved by a fire retardant drop, but the situation remains uncertain, and we’re still under a level 3 evacuation order.

As we wait for the chance to return home, our expenses are mounting. We need help covering various expenses and things not covered by insurance. We have no access to our physical assets at home to sell to make extra money and am diminished at my capacity to work without access to my tools and equipment I use for my job/trade. Once we’re able to go back, we’ll face even more costs. All our usual bills are still due as federal relief has not passed yet for individual support, we’re struggling without any emergency savings to fall back on. A large deductible to cover for full support from insurance is an issue too.

We are animal rescuers who have always done our best to make ends meet, but this disaster has pushed us into a real crisis.
