We originally workshopped King of Nothing at Brick Aux, and presented it as a one-night-only event at TrashFest/DarkFest 2022 at The Tank.

Now we're bringing it back for a full production at The Brick, Williamsburg’s primary incubator of innovative theater and performing arts, in May 2023!

ABOUT THE SHOW:

Welcome to the end of the world. Are you sitting comfortably? Are you gripping your flashlight tightly? Did you take your pill today? Quiet now. A transmission’s coming through.

King of Nothing is a one-person/one-sock-puppet mangling of King Lear inspired by the environmental collapse of our post-Amazon age.

From the director: I met Rachel Weekley in 2019, and immediately realized they're an artist I would follow to hell and back. So when the opportunity presented itself to collaborate with them on a one-clown/one-puppet King Lear set on a heap of cardboard and plastic waste, I jumped at it. As with our previous collaboration on Faust, this is an experiential piece that invites the audience into a new world where they must navigate a trash heap, find their seats, and take the ride.

From the writer (the alive one): I'm seeking to explore old and familiar text after it's been torn apart and cobbled back together again. Does this work still speak to us without any of its original context? Can we create beauty out of garbage? Can we find ourselves together in our loneliness? I don't think there are concrete answers but I think they are questions worth exploring together after what feels like a complete collapse and without any answers.
