My oldest brother Arturo Son lives in the Philippines and has been in the hospital for well over a month due to a severe infection in his leg and foot. Being diabetic, recovery has been difficult. During his stay, doctors discovered he has emphysema and a blockage in his brain.

At one point, he needed a blood transfusion, which thankfully was successful. He’s now cleared for discharge, but in the Philippines, unlike in the U.S., patients cannot leave the hospital until all medical bills are paid in full. Sadly, this means his bills increase each day he remains there.

His expenses total over a million pesos—about $20,000 U.S. dollars. With help from family and friends, we’ve reduced that by half, but we still need support.
