Update 7/20/25:
Ellie is home ❤️
We picked her up Friday morning and have been laying low with her this weekend. She seems to be doing much better today and is slowly getting back to her normal self!
A little frustrating that we did not receive an official diagnosis other than suspected pancreatitis and elevated kidney values…however all signs seem to point to anaphylactic reaction.
We’re still treating at home with antibiotics, steroid, anti nausea meds, and an appetite stimulant. Our biggest challenge at this time is encouraging her to eat and take her meds.
We’re so happy she is home and seems to be on the up thank you again for everyone’s support through this, it truly means the world. I know some people think “it’s just a dog”, but she means way more than that. ❤️
Update 7/17/25:
Ellie seemed a bit happier and lively when we saw her tonight. Her kidney values are just about completely back to normal! She’s developed edema in the last 24 hours though that they are monitoring. Her ultrasound showed a lot of inflammation and fluid in her abdomen (no bacteria) that possibly suggests anaphylactic reaction. She has started on steroids and an additional antibiotic for possible pancreatitis and any infections.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everyone who has donated and continues to donate to Ellie’s care. We can’t tell you enough how much it means to us and our baby girl.
Story:
Hi everyone,
We’re reaching out with heavy hearts to ask for help for our sweet girl, Ellie — a 6-year-old golden retriever who means the world to her family.
Ellie was recently hospitalized with what appears to be serious kidney issues. At first, we thought it might be a reaction to a bee sting, but her condition quickly worsened a few days later. She's now showing signs of chronic kidney/renal infection or disease, or a UTI that got into the kidneys, we still don’t know the full cause. She’s been in the hospital since Monday, undergoing continuous IV fluids, antibiotics, anti-nausea meds, and appetite stimulants to keep her stable. Her kidney values are slowly trending in the right direction, just not as quickly as we had hoped.
Her care team is working around the clock, and an internal medicine radiologist is scheduled to perform a full abdominal ultrasound today to search for the source of the elevated kidney values.
We’re doing everything we can for Ellie — but the costs are adding up fast. Her hospitalization and treatments have already neared $7,000, and upcoming diagnostics, an additional $1,600-$2,300 for the ultrasound, and supportive care will only add more.
Why We’re Asking for Help:
Ellie isn’t just a dog — she’s family. She’s been our joy, our comfort, and our best friend. Watching her go through this is heartbreaking, but we’re holding on to hope and doing everything in our power to get Ellie back to her healthy and happy self.
If you’re able to contribute, even a small amount, it would help us give Ellie the best chance at recovery. Every donation goes directly toward her vet bills, hospital care, and diagnostics.
