At our 20-week appointment, we were so excited to see our baby from head to toe and find out if we were having a boy or a girl! (It's a girl!) We didn't know that our OB would come in and deliver news that no one is ready to hear. They had found an abnormality in her heart. After a few weeks of scans and appointments, we were referred to Children's Hospital. We packed up and headed to Minneapolis to meet our new team and get some answers. We were told that she has coarctation of the aorta (narrowing of the aorta) and small structures on the left side of her heart. This means that blood flow from her heart to the rest of her body is impaired and she will need surgery within the first week after delivery to repair this.
Addy Mae has made her arrival! We are currently awaiting her surgery plan and spending as much cuddle time as we can with her!
