Hi everyone,

My sister and I created this GoFundMe to help our cousin Adriana cover the medical expenses for her mother, our aunt Mima, who recently suffered a serious injury in Caracas, Venezuela.

Last week, Mima fell and fractured her proximal humerus (upper arm and shoulder). The injury is severe, and surgery is now medically necessary to restore her mobility and relieve her pain.

Mima and her husband are both retired and uninsured, and their only steady income comes from a small pension of less than $100 per month between the two. Like many families in Venezuela, they are navigating incredibly difficult conditions — shortages of food, medicine, and fuel, along with unreliable electricity and running water.

To give some context: when Mima first went to the emergency room, the hospital didn’t even have basic bandages available to immobilize her arm. A family member had to find and purchase them separately just so she could receive minimal care.

We’ve now received a detailed estimate for her surgery and treatment:

* Hospital fees, anesthesia evaluation, and imaging: $2,200

* Surgeon and two assistant surgeons: $3,000

* Surgical materials: $1,500

Total cost: $6,700

Adriana recently organized a raffle to help cover initial costs and was able to raise $1,000. We are now trying to raise the remaining $5,700 (+GoFundMe fees) so Mima can proceed with surgery as soon as possible, before her condition worsens.

While close family and friends have been incredibly supportive, much of this responsibility has fallen on Adriana, who has been doing everything she can from abroad to care for her parents under very difficult circumstances.

Any donation, no matter how small, will help us move closer to giving Mima the surgery and recovery care she urgently needs. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this with your community also makes a big difference.

This GoFundMe is happening in tandem with another fundraiser Adriana is running at work. Should there be any adjustments to the current monetary goal, we will send notifications and any relevant revisions as that progresses.
