Help Our 8th Graders Walk the Path of History

At Lagunitas, learning goes beyond the classroom. Each spring, our 8th graders follow the Civil Rights Trail through the American South—visiting the landmarks where history was made.

They raise the money themselves through fundraisers and local outreach, learning responsibility, teamwork, and the power of community. Now, they need your support to help make it happen.

Details:

Cost of the trip is $2100 per student including chaperones
Parents can make monthly contributions
Family & Community Members can support in anyway

Civil Rights Trip Overview

Day 1 – Atlanta

Arrive in Atlanta and visit the King Center, Auburn Avenue, and Ebenezer Baptist Church—the neighborhood where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. grew up. Dinner at Ponce City Market.

Day 2 – Selma & Montgomery

Travel to Selma to tour the historic town and walk across the Edmund Pettus Bridge. Continue to Montgomery for the Rosa Parks Museum and learn about the Montgomery Bus Boycott. End the evening at a Montgomery Biscuits baseball game.

Day 3 – Montgomery, Birmingham & Atlanta

Begin at the Legacy Museum and National Memorial for Peace and Justice with the Equal Justice Initiative, then visit their Sculpture Garden. Travel to Birmingham for a walking tour of Kelly Ingram Park (Freedom Park) and the 16th Street Baptist Church. Return to Atlanta in the evening.

Day 4 – Atlanta & Departure

Conclude the trip with a closing program before departing from Atlanta.
