Support our 8th grader’s field trips!

My name is Greg Fairbank. I am a middle school teacher at Carl von Linne Elementary in the Chicago Public Schools. We are a Spanish dual language, pre-k to 8th grade, Title I school in the Avondale neighborhood (glossary: Title I is a government designation meaning we are a school with a majority low-income community).

Every year, we end with field trips to celebrate the 8th grader’s graduation and their hard work over the years at Linne. This year, we have organized the following trips:

Spirit of Chicago: Boat cruise on the Chicago River & Lake Michigan with a luncheon banquet and DJ! ($85 per student).

Big Bus Double Decker Bus Tour: A double-decker bus tour to some of Chicago’s most beautiful places. ($25 per student)

Logan Theater movie outing. The double-decker bus will drop us off at this neighborhood movie theater. We have one theater rented for our students. ($11 per student)

The total price per student is $140. But we need your help to make this happen!

$140 is quite a lot for the families we serve, but we want all students to be able to experience these great, local opportunities. In addition, our 8th grade has received 6 “newcomer” students who arrived this year from South America. Your donation would fund these students, as well as any families who have communicated to the school that they are unable to pay on their own due to financial reasons. This fundraiser is not meant to fully fund every student, but to lessen the burden on as many families as possible, including those mentioned above. Every donation makes a difference, even just a few bucks. Last year we raised $2,860, which was insane!!! Thank you!!!! This year we hope to break that record :)

Covid canceled all field trips for about two years, so we are hoping to give our students many warm memories as they close this chapter at Linne. Thank you for your consideration in donating. We really appreciate it!
