Support our - 12km city to surf cancer walk for Sahaimi

Donation protected
Dear Friends, Supporters, and Kind Community,

I’m writing to you with a full heart and a humble request for support as we walk through one of the most challenging chapters of our lives.

My 14 year old son Sahaimi Angus is currently undergoing cancer treatment at perths childrens hospital. Our family has had to relocate from Broome to Perth, leaving behind our community, our Country, and everything we know in order to be close to the care he needs. This has placed a huge emotional, physical, and financial strain on all of us.

Through it all, we remain hopeful and to honour that hope, on Sunday, August 31, 2025, I (Colleen/mother of Sahaimi) will walk 12 kilometres in the City to Surf marathon, pushing Sahaimi in his wheelchair, supported by our friends and supports from the Native Earth community @ www.nativeeath.co.

This walk represents more than just kilometres. It is a symbol of resilience, unity, and a mother’s love pushing through hardship—step by step, breath by breath.

We have launched a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of $30,000 to help us move forward in some of the most important and healing ways.

What We’re Fundraising For:

1. A laptop for me (Colleen) so I can learn to manage Sahaimi’s NDIS plan, complete critical paperwork, and become more independent and empowered as Sahaimi's full time carer.

2. A gaming and streaming setup for Sahaimi, so he can share his story online, engage with others creatively, and find a sense of purpose and joy during treatment. In-between all fo the medical appointments we are stuck at home with nothing to do but watch tv, this repetitive cycle brings about feelings of uselessness and no purpose. This IT set up will give Sahaimi great purpose, and allow us to engage in social, educational and meaningful ways from our accommodation while being in Perth.

3. Bringing our family from Broome to Perth for the fun run weekend. We are asking for support to help fly family members down and provide accommodation, so Sahaimi can be surrounded by his loved ones—not just for emotional strength, but to experience laughter and healing through connection.

4. Vouchers and financial support for family activities so we can enjoy moments of joy and normalcy together here in Perth—things like ten pin bowling, mini golf, meals out, beach days, and little getaway experiences. These activities bring life and light back into our children’s spirits and help us reconnect as a family.

How You Can Help:

1. Donate to our GoFundMe page:

2. Contribute gift cards or vouchers for fun family outings in Perth (cinemas, restaurants, adventure parks, etc.)

3. Sponsor travel or accommodation to bring our family from Broome for the fun run.

4. Join us for the walk on Sun, August 31, 2025, assemble time 8:50 am 9:25 am start time AWST, as part of the Native Earth team supporting Sahaimi and walking in honour of healing, strength, and love.

5. Share our story to help spread the word far and wide on your online socials and community groups and to friend and family who you know might want to support our cause.

This is more than a fundraiser. It’s about reclaiming moments of joy and dignity, building memories, and walking through life’s hardest parts with love, community, and support at our side.

We are a proud Indigenous family from Broome who, despite hardship, continues to show up with open hearts. But right now, we need our wider tribe to walk with us.

Thank you for reading, for caring, and for helping us.

Kindest regards,

Colleen & Sahaimi Angus and our extended family.
