Support Ouija's Recovery Journey

***UPDATE***

YOU ALL ARE AMAZING!!! Thank you so much!!! In just three hours ya'll helped reach the initial goal to cover this morning's vet care and next week's follow up appointments and bloodwork. I truly cannot express how much this helps me and alleviates so many concerns around taking him in. I have updated the goal to what it would take for him to get the blood transfusion that would give him the absolute best shot at surviving and recovering for anyone who wants to contribute from this point on!! All funds will go towards his care/aftercare either way to try and get him through this.

So much gratitude to you all for your kindness and care!!!!

Full story below:

Hi friends,

Last night (08/19) I found a very sick and weak stray cat laying on the sidewalk next to a busy road in Kensington. He very clearly needed help, so I took him in for the night and got him to a vet first thing this morning. While his feLV/fiv bloodwork thankfully came back negative and there are no severe injuries, he is incredibly anemic, likely from a combination of severe flea and parasitic infestations and extreme malnourishment -- he only weighs 5lbs! I've named him Ouija for now.

In full transparency, his prognosis isn't great. He's very, VERY weak and the best thing for him would be a blood transfusion roughly estimated at a minimum of $1,500 which I absolutely cannot afford, but there is a slight chance that with the fleas and parasites taken care of (which we treated this morning) and lots of good nutritious food (which he is now getting), his body will start producing new red blood cells and that he might recover on his own with lots of TLC and rest. That is the route I am going while seeing what I can do in terms of finding a sponsor/shelter/org to assist with a blood transfusion.

All that said, I am currently working a second job pet sitting whenever I can to pay off significant vet bills my own cats racked up with health emergencies last year, so paying vet fees for a stray is a financial hit I am not currently equipped to handle on my own. The vet is truly not sure if this kitty will make it, and if he recovers I am not sure where he will go, but for now my only goal is to keep him safe and give him a chance to recover while trying to figure out how to get him a blood transfusion. I know my amazing community of friends cares deeply for animals. If you can spare even a few bucks or just share with your network, it will help out tremendously! Ouija's vet visit, bloodwork, and treatment today came in at $516 and he will need to go back next week for more bloodwork to see how he is doing (which will be another $295). I am trying to cover what I can in terms of food and supplies, but any help with covering these vet costs will really go a long way toward helping us both out!!

Thank you so much for reading/sharing/helping!
