In January 2026, four senior and four graduate occupational therapy (OT) students will participate in Aloha Kauai, a fieldwork and service experience in Kauai, Hawaii. The Aloha Kauai experience helps students understand the impact of OT limited services on the health and quality of life of individuals living in a medically underserved, multicultural community within their own country. Students will observe and participate in OT services within traditional medical settings, including hospitals and outpatient rehabilitation clinics, as well as community-based programs, such as equine therapy and adapted surfing. Students will also engage in community service by volunteering at local food banks and distributing food, clothing, and personal hygiene items to marginalized residents of Kauai and plan to provide health education to the Kauai community at various public locations on the island. Through this immersive experience, students will develop the professional skills needed to be culturally aware occupational therapists and future leaders in a globalized world.
