Support Oscar's Journey to a New Kidney

Hi, my name is Sheila McKay. I am the mother of Oscar Ontiveros. As most of you that has been following Oscar’s journey knows that he has been in and out of the hospital constantly for the past year and a half. We have traveled several times to Scottsdale, Arizona to the Mayo Clinic for second opinions, correct medications, evaluations, Infusions, and now a lot of testing to be placed on a Kidney Transplant List. On May 1st we had received a phone call from the Mayo Clinic setting up an appointment for Oscar on June 18th-21st again in Scottsdale, Arizona. This appointment will consist of several days of testing (Labs, CT’s, MRI, Stress Tests). This will be the start of being placed on a Kidney Transplant List. There will also be many video appointments between now and this appointment, as well as after the appointment. Oscar is needing help getting to the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona and back home, plus help with food, and lodging. If Oscar’s appointments get rescheduled, he can loose his chance at getting a Kidney, and it will go on to the next candidate.

**UPDATE 4/24/25 Updating on 2nd Infusion. 2nd Infusion was on 4/21/25 with no side effects except tiredness and some slight sleepiness. Next Infusion date (if needed) is 10/10/25. We will have some upcoming trips back to the Mayo Clinic come July 11th, unless notified to be there sooner. This appointment will result in a lot of labs, different tests (on heart and other organs) stress test, etc.. This will all be done to get Oscar on the Transplant list, just in case it is needed. We hope and pray that these Infusions do its job to where we don’t have to go that route. We continue to thank you all for your continued prayers. We can never thank you enough. Please continue to share, as we still need help getting him back for his future trips. It will go on food, lodging, and airfare. As always, we will continue to keep you updated!! **UPDATE 4/8/25** Just wanting to update everyone since his Infusion. The Infusion took right at 6 hours. They did give him some steroids and Allegra when they first started. As of now he hasn’t had any bad side effects. Once Infusion started he started getting a sore throat, but luckily it went away. But he has slept a lot. The Infusion has made him very sleepy/tired. He slept all day yesterday and all night long. We are back in Texas now. He has not had dialysis since last Monday and has retained fluid. So we are back at Covenant Hospital to get fluids off. We will be leaving again on Saturday April 19th for his second Infusion scheduled on Monday April 21st. Once again, thank you for all the prayers, shares, and donations. We will be traveling back in July as well for a lot of testing to be placed for a Kidney Transplant. Thank you all so very much!! ❤️ **UPDATE 4/3/25** We received a phone call today stating that we will have an additional appointment to the Mayo Clinic. This appointment has been set for July 11th. This will consist of staying several days for testing. This initial visit is to have testing done and ready for a future Kidney Transplant if it is needed. There will a few more phone calls that will consist of an interview. We are still searching for anyone who would be interested in being a donor. If you would like to be a donor, or know of someone, please reach out to us. We understand that it is taking a big step, but it will be saving a life!! We will continue to update information as we receive it. We are really praying these Infusions heals his Kidneys and brings him back to a long and healthy life.. Thank you for your continued prayers. Please share this, as we will need all the prayers ****UPDATE 3/28/25**** As you all know, we have been waiting on the phone call stating the Infusions have been approved by the Insurance, and his appointments scheduled. Oscar has also been complying with the Mayo Clinic in regards to the requirements to be placed on the Kidney Transplant List. Although we do not want it to go as far as a Kidney Transplant, we will still have that option if it was to come to that. As of this morning, we received “the phone call” we have been waiting for!!! The Infusions has been scheduled for Monday April 7th and Monday April 21st. They are confident that these infusions are going to help stop the protein spilling into his kidneys, and cure his Kidneys. These Infusions will be 6 hours long each Infusion. He will remain on dialysis, and medications until they see improvement from these Infusions, which should be 8-12 weeks after the second Infusion. God Is Good!! GOD BLESS!! ❤️ *** UPDATE 3/19/25*** We are still waiting for the appointment for the Infusions. We are treating an infection before Infusions can be done. We are hoping to get on a Kidney Transplant List, but first we have to go through several different requirements first. We recently were in the hospital for dangerously high Potassium levels. Thank you all and God Bless!! *** NEW UPDATE *** As of yesterday (3/3/25) we were informed that we would be getting a phone call from the Mayo Clinic’s Kidney Transplant Team in regards to an evaluation for a Kidney Transplant. We are also still waiting for an appointment for the IV Infusions. This may consist of more traveling to Arizona.
