My name is Reyna Mateo, and I have had the privilege of working alongside Oscar for more than 10 years. During that time, I have come to know him as one of the most caring, hardworking, and devoted people I have ever met. Above all, Oscar is a loving husband and a dedicated father to his three beautiful children.

Today, our work family is coming together to support him during an unimaginable tragedy.

On Saturday, June 27, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Oscar and his family became innocent victims of a senseless act of gun violence while sitting inside their vehicle in the parking lot of a McDonald's in Hallandale Beach. As reported by local authorities, Oscar and his family had just arrived at the restaurant while his wife went inside to pick up food. Oscar remained in the vehicle with their three children.

Without warning, an altercation broke out between other individuals in the parking lot, and gunfire erupted. Oscar and his family had no involvement whatsoever in the incident. During the shooting, Oscar was struck in the leg, and his 11-year-old daughter was shot in the head. Their two other children, who were also inside the vehicle, were physically unharmed but witnessed the terrifying incident.

Both Oscar and his daughter were rushed to the hospital. Thankfully, Oscar has since been released and is continuing his recovery at home. His daughter remains hospitalized in stable condition after undergoing surgery. Doctors have advised the family that they are not removing the bullet at this time because doing so could cause even greater harm. She continues to receive specialized medical care and faces a long road to recovery.

As Oscar's coworkers and friends, we are asking for your support during this incredibly difficult time. The funds raised will help cover medical expenses, ongoing treatment, rehabilitation, lost income, and everyday living expenses while Oscar and his family focus entirely on their daughter's recovery and helping all three children heal from this traumatic experience.
