On May 9, 2024, my dear friend Oscar was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the colon. His body began sounding the alarm bells several weeks before, and the signs could no longer be ignored. Bloodwork was ordered, and the results were grim. A routine Cologuard screening with impeccable timing revealed a potential cause. Oscar was bumped to the head of the line for a colonoscopy, and it confirmed the presence of a mass. While we were braced for bad news, we did not expect it to come in the form of a mass so large that it could not be measured or even properly examined at that time. Further scans have been ordered, and we will have a greater understanding of the scope and treatment plan soon.

Oscar and his wife Megan are a rare breed. Their lives serve as a constant blessing and source of hope to others as they fulfill the call of God to make Him known in all that they do. They have served as ministers of the Gospel for more than half of their lives, and they currently pastor a church in Norwalk, IA. They are parents to two adult children, as well as to four little ones that they welcomed into their home through the foster care system and later adopted. They live to give, and in this season, it's time to give back.
