My dear friend Orion has no cartilage left in one of his hips, and very little left in the other. A husband and father of two, he has been unable to work for several months now, and his family is struggling. They haven’t yet determined why he lost his cartilage so young, but after getting bounced around from doctor-to-doctor for most of this year, he finally has a surgery date set for November. He and his wife and previously saved up for this, but the mess of our medical system delayed things all year, and now his condition has worsened and the savings have run dry.
When my wife and I lost our daughter, Orion was a tremendous help and comfort to us. As a member of our spiritual community, he officiated the funeral and helped us through our grieving process. He has always been eager to selflessly pour time and energy into his community, and now we have an opportunity to show up for him.
Currently he spends every waking moment in excruciating pain, and can only manage one trip downstairs each day. Despite this, he is homeschooling both of his children, a welcome distraction from the pain. Orion’s wife Kara has found part-time work, but having dedicated several years to stay-at-home parenting and homeschooling, she has to start her career over from the ground up. This takes time and isn’t yet enough to provide sole income for a family. Meanwhile she still has to care for him and the kids.
Your contribution will be used to help pay medical bills, fund travel to the surgery location, and pay the bills until he is able to return to work.
Please consider helping Orion on his road to recovery!
