hello friends family and strangers. this morning my parent’s dog Oreo suffered from a life threatening seizure for the first time. it lasted extremely long, or he was possibly having multiple of them. this is the first time something serious like this has happened to one of our dogs and me , my mom , and brother in a panic decided to take him to a random 24hr emergency vet hospital that ended up being very costly. initially they tried charging around $7,000 for stabilization, exam, and further treatment but after admitting that there was no way we would be able to pay for that amount they lowered the cost to around $3,000 , an amount that unfortunately still exceeds our budget and will cause financial hardship over the next several months. my father who is the primary owner of Oreo is refusing to help us pay because we rushed him to a random hospital instead of discussing it with him first. i get his frustration but this leaves the financial burden on me and my brother, and we are both college students who need to pay for our education. my mom is already paying for her own credit card bills and several other bills so there is not too much she can do to help. currently we are sitting in the waiting room waiting to hear what is wrong with Oreo since we still are not 100% sure and we are also waiting to hear if they will be charging us more than the $3k , at which point we will not know what to do since that would greatly exceed our budget. (update: we were able to cut out some exams and the treatment period from 24hr to 12hr to get the total to $3,050 excluding the medication he will need after the treatment that we were told will cost a couple hundred dollars) we know that we should have researched a cheaper hospital especially since we were not prepared to pay the costs of expensive treatment before deciding to bring him into a vet but we were so scared that the seizure would end his life considering it was not seeming to stop. so i am asking and practically begging anyone and everyone for your financial support. anything and everything is immensely appreciated and thank you for even reading up until this point. please pray for Oreo.
