Vivre Dance Project will make its world premiere this Spring in Opulence.
Opulence is a 50-minute multidisciplinary performance exploring Black womanhood and girlhood through dance, vocal performance, and poetry. The work is rooted in lived experience and inspired by Biblical scripture, West African theology, and artists such as Nina Simone, Maya Angelou, Octavia E. Butler, and Eartha Kitt. The performance features original choreography by Joie Yvonne, Aminah Valentine, and the dancers of Vivre Dance Project.
This project began when Joie returned to teaching in August 2025 and began building a strong community of dancers in her classes. After releasing a casting call, and receiving over 100 submissions, it was confirmed that this work resonates and deserves to exist on stage.
Today, we are Vivre Dance Project, a 17-woman collective committed to telling stories of Black girlhood and womanhood. It is our primary mission to empower women of all ages, sizes, and identities to claim their creativity through dance and performance.
Your support will directly help bring Opulence to life (May 16th!), support our collaborators and dancers, and the growth of Vivre Dance Project as a long-term performance company.
If this mission speaks to you, please consider donating. ♡
