We’re thrilled to announce that Open Streets on Tompkins Avenue has officially been approved for Summer 2025! Even more exciting, TAMA (Tompkins Avenue Merchant Association) has taken the lead. This year, we've secured the permit and have been actively planning for an even more elevated, organized, and expansive experience. TAMA is coming with a fresh perspective and curating spaces between Gates Ave and Hancock St. where neighbors connect, local businesses thrive, and the energy of Tompkins Ave comes alive in the most positive of ways.

Why We Need Your Support!

Without the support of a fiscal conduit and no access DOT funding, TAMA is solely responsible for securing the necessary funds for this season’s Open Streets initiative. Community support will be essential in sustaining this year’s programming and keeping this cultural gem and economic engine alive in our neighborhood.

Impact

Since 2015, TAMA has been curating space that blends culture, commerce, and community through city initiatives like Weekend Walks and now Open Streets. These efforts have greatly sustained and strengthened our local economy. Since OS on Tompkins began roughly 70% of TAMA businesses have seen revenue increases each season ranging from 5% to over 50% and an increase in foot traffic overall.

These Sunday activations encapsulate the heartbeat of Bedstuy in every warm greeting and every conversation that turns into a reunion. An open space for the community to gather that feels effortless in a place that feels like home.

As Bedstuy rapidly evolves, preserving its cultural heartbeat is more important than ever. Beyond shopping and dining, we aim to protect the soul of Tompkins Avenue, keeping it vibrant, welcoming, and culturally relevant to longtime residents, new neighbors, and generations to come!
