Support Onjalique & Kavian's Surrogacy Journey

Dear Friends, Family and community,

On Sunday, May 5th, 2024, our sister, daughter and friend Onjalique and her partner Kavian faced an unimaginable tragedy – the loss of their first baby. Onjalique was experiencing a relatively normal pregnancy, until she wasn’t. At 5 months, while home alone, she experienced a complete uterine rupture and placental abruption. In attempt to save both her life and the baby’s, Onjalique had an emergency c-section at the nearest hospital. Her baby boy was found expelled from her uterus with a significantly low heart rate. Their baby boy fought to breathe with the same spirit as his parents, but unfortunately, the NICU doctors couldn’t save him.

Despite this unforeseen tragedy, Onjalique & Kavian desired to know their next steps to having a family. They learned that Onjalique’s previous myomectomy (fibroid removal) coupled with her unique anatomy made her susceptible to ruptures. With a 0.6% likelihood of this happening, Onjalique happened to fall in this narrow percentage. Because the odds are so slim she has been described as a “rare” case in the field, due to the lack of research studies available. After numerous consultations with specialists and extensive testing, it has been determined that Onjalique can not carry a baby full term without increased chance of reoccurrence. Her obstetricians have made it clear that surrogacy is the best option for them to have a baby of their own.

This is certainly not the path Onjalique and Kavian imagined, but they have come to terms that this is the route they must take. Knowing the insurmountable cost to come, they are committed to working additional hours to build their future family. Kavian is putting in overtime as an electrician and Onjalique is finding other streams of income as a pediatric speech-language pathologist.

We, their family and friends, have decided to support them in their quest to become parents by reaching out to our community. Please consider supporting Onjalique and Kavian as they begin on this path to grow their family of 2 to 3, plus their guardian Angel. All funds raised will go directly towards the cost of surrogacy.

Agency fee: up to $50,000

Compensation to the surrogate: $30,000 / <

Expenses and other payments to the surrogate: $15,000 / <

Legal fees: Up to $20,000

Counseling services: $7,000

IVF or embryo implantation: Up to $25,000
