Help Omori Heal: Surgery, Recovery & Support Fund

Omori Yasuhiro—a rising star in university sumo—was seriously injured during a recent tournament match. He dislocated his shoulder and fractured his humerus, with two bone shards that must be surgically removed. One of them is from an old, untreated injury he’s been silently struggling through pain from for over a year. Still, he kept fighting—and kept winning, becoming a top ranked student nationally. However, with his new injury, he must receive treatment quickly, or else lose his hopes of any kind of sumo career; this new injury compounded with the previous one threatens his ability to use his arm.

He will be receiving surgery to remove both bone shards, and potentially to reattach the labrum. There’s a long road to recovery ahead.

Japanese healthcare and his university may help cover some of the cost, but it won’t be enough—especially for the months of recovery, rehabilitation, and daily life support Omori will need. He won’t be able to cook for himself. He’ll need medication, mobility help, and physical therapy. His family isn’t in a position to provide financial support, so this fundraiser exists to make sure he isn’t alone in this. They raised him to be not only an incredible person, but an amazing wrestler, and they need our help taking care of him now, too.

Omori’s entire life revolves around sumo. It’s all he thinks about, all he works toward. He gives everything in his training, in every match, and he’s determined to overcome this injury—not just to return, but to become even stronger. He’s aiming to qualify for tsukedashi later this year by placing in the top 16 at key tournaments. That would allow him to start his professional career ranked in Division 3—exactly where a talent like his belongs.

He dreams of becoming yokozuna, like his idol Chiyonofuji, who also overcame devastating shoulder injuries to reach the pinnacle of sumo. Omori carries that same strength, spirit, and fire. He just needs time—and our help. He WILL become yokozuna if he gets the proper care right now!
