My name is Omar Galvez, and I am currently a student at the College for Creative studies, majoring in Studio Art and Craft. My work is rooted in the exploration of identity and the spaces between culture. I am asking for your support so that I can take part in an upcoming residency in Zimbabwe alongside my professor, Chido and a group of fellow artists.
During this residency, I will be working closely with local artist from Zimbabwe, learning from their practices and sharing my own. It will be a chance to bridge perspectives, materials and lived experiences. An opportunity like this will allow me to understand global art communities while developing my voice.
The funds I am raising will cover the cost of airfare to Zimbabwe, the program fees for the residency and the shipping of my artwork back to the United States. Each of these expenses are important in ensuring I can fully participate and bring my work back home safely.
At the end of this residency, the work I create will be exhibited in Detroit. The exhibition will allow me to showcase my personal growth and cultural connections that were formed in this residency.
Any contribution, no matter the amount will help me with this opportunity. Your support will be an investment in my education, artistic development, and the power of cultural exchange through art.
Thank you for taking the time to read and supporting my journey.
